Military Family Receives a Boost for Christmas

12/29/2009

(CHULA VISTA, California, Dec. 23, 2009) - Every family could use some extra cash during the holiday season to treat their family and friends to a special Christmas.

This has become a reality for the Ignacio family of Chula Vista, California.

The Ignacio family received $500 holiday bonus after winning a Christmas Giveaway Contest hosted by LowVARates.com.

The contest was designed to give a deserving military family some extra holiday cash to help them have a Merry Christmas.  The Ignacio’s won the contest by submitting a 200 word essay stating why their military service and personal circumstances qualified them for the contest.

Mr. Ignacio has valiantly served in the U.S. Armed Forces for over 26 years and is now a retired military officer .  Mrs. Ignacio has also served in the military for close to three years and is continuing to enjoy life in the military.

“To receive $500 really means a lot to my family,” Mr. Ignacio said.  “I will also share this money with my other family members who are having a hard time putting a good dinner together for Christmas.”

The Ignacio’s have had a tradition of serving a huge family feast on Christmas Eve.  All the family members in close proximity gather together to share the meal and valuable time together as a family.

A large chunk of their winnings will go towards the dinner and give the entire family a well-deserved Christmas feast.

The couple also has a 20-month old daughter.  The prize money will now allow her to receive some nice gifts for Christmas.  She already knows how to count from 1 to 10 and is starting to learn her ABC’s.

“With the $500 I would love to get my daughter some educational DVD’s to help her continue to learn,”  Mrs. Ignacio said.  “Our service in the military is not only to help our country, but also to protect our daughter.”

LowVARates recently gave away a free Thanksgiving dinner to a lucky military family on Hill Air Force Base in Utah.  The Chesney family enjoyed a free dinner at Mimi’s café.

The Thanksgiving contest was such a great success the organization decided to run another contest for Christmas.

“We were so pleased with the Thanksgiving Contest that we decided we had to do something for Christmas,” Owner of LowVARates Eric Kandell said.  “We are really happy that the Ignacio family won the contest and feel they definitely deserve the money.”

The Ignacio family has lived in California for just over three years.  Mr. and Mrs. Ignacio are both originally from the Philippines and grew up in Luzon, a small region of the country.

They both feel it’s an honor to serve their country in the military and feel lucky to be a part of this great nation.

“Serving in the military is my passion.”  Mrs. Ignacio said. “To me serving in the military means you do it with sincerity, dignity and without reservation.”
