Christmas Brings Money for Two Charitable Organizations

12/29/2010

Two charitable organizations, The Christmas Fairy and Operation Homefront Wounded Warrior Wives were the winner of the LowVARates.com Christmas Giveaway.  Each organization received money to help support their respective causes.

Two charitable organizations won $350 during the LowVARates.com 2010 Christmas Contest hosted through Face book.

Friends and fans of LowVARates nominated their favorite charitable organization to win the grand prize of $250.  However, due to the popular response, LowVARates.com awarded $250 to grand winner and $100 to the second place winner.  Ten organizations were nominated for the prize and voted on by LowVARates face book fans.

105 people voted for the various organizations and the Christmas Fairy was the $250 grand winner receiving 48 of the 105 votes.

Operation Homefront Wounded Warrior Wives received 37 of the 100 votes and also won a $100 second place prize.

Owner of LowVARates, Eric Kandell, wanted to donate to a charitable organization chosen by LowVARates friends and fans on face book.

“The purpose of the contest was to get our Face book friends involved in helping us choose an honorable charitable organization,” Kandell said.  “The Christmas Fairy and Operation Homefront Wounded Warrior Wives are two fantastic organizations and we are more than willing to help them out.”

The Christmas Fairy was founded recently in September of 2010 and was originally planned to help only ten people. The scope of the organization quickly changed as more people donated and they were able to help more families. Donators are encouraged to pick a family they wish to help, give the families name and address to the organization and donated items are sent directly to the families.

The founder of the Christmas Fairy wishes to stay anonymous, but is know by “The Christmas Fairy” and “The Christmas Helper” on face book.

“We will be using the $250 to buy clothing, toys, books, and other items that families could use throughout the year,” The Christmas Fairy said. “Some of the money will also be reserved for shipping those items once we start taking on families again for next Christmas.”

Operation Homefront Wounded Warrior Wives provides emergency financial assistance to the service member families and wounded warriors.   The organization also assists military families by providing food assistance in the form of food boxes and gift certificates to grocery stores.

“We just want to thank all of our friends and fans on face book for choosing two wonderful organizations,” Kandell said.  “We know the money will be used to help those in need.”

This is the second year of the LowVARates Christmas Contest.  Last year the company gave close to $500 to the Ignacio family in California to help cover the cost of Christmas.

“Last year we were able to help out the Ignacio family with a nice Christmas dinner and some gifts,” Kandell said.  “Since the contest was such a success, we wanted to continue it this year by giving to a charitable organization.”

The $350 donation was the last donation given in 2010 for LowVARates.com.  In 2010, the company has donated over $15,000 to families in need and charitable organizations.
